The ERNEST & GISELA HALE SCHOLARSHIPS
The Ernest & Gisela Hale Scholarships for the Children of U.S. Special Forces Members in Cooperation with the Navy Seal Museum Foundation and the Army Unit Scholarship Fund
These scholarships are dedicated to my parents and are specifically for students pursuing degrees preparing them for either:
A career in Military Service or for a career in Education
Ernest, a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam, came from a farming family of 13 children in Texas, played professional baseball and ultimately served 30 years with the US Air Force.
Gisela grew up as a German civilian child during WWII surviving the Allied bombings and eating what her family could find to stay alive. After the war she went to work for the American military in a secretarial capacity. When she married my father, CWO4 Ernest L. Hale, she followed him around the world for his military tours and doggedly pursued her own higher education culminating in a PhD from Boston College.
Both of my parents are now buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

The WILLIAM & MARLEE SCHOLARSHIPS
The William & Marlee Scholarships for the Children of U.S. Special Forces Members in Cooperation with the Navy Seal Museum Foundation and the Army Unit Scholarship Fund
These scholarships are dedicated to my best friend of over 14 years, Marlee and to my personal involvement in the world of Physics and Material Science research equipment. They are specifically for students pursuing degrees in either:
Veterinary Sciences or in other STEM Related Fields
In 1989 I started AJA International, Inc., a company specializing in the development and manufacturing of High Tech, Thin Film Research Systems now found in University, Government, Military and Private Research Labs around the world. As this endeavor was quite successful, resources have been accumulated to help the Marlee Foundation achieve its past, current and future goals. Marlee joined me in 1999 and taught me a lot about selflessness. In the beginning we spent many hours apart as I built the business from scratch. Ultimately we traveled all over the US together until she passed in 2014. I named this foundation after her as she was my dearest friend and my major inspiration to "give back" in the later years of my life.
I believe that offering these scholarships is a fitting way to honor dedication to serving one's country, to the pursuit of education against the odds, to loyalty and selfless love and to the lifelong effort that makes this all possible. By making this funding available, we hope to say thank you in a small way to those military families of Special Forces Members that have given so very much to us all.
Our goal is 2025 is to provide $120,000.00 toward 36 scholarships.

Why the the children of Special Operations members? In today's increasingly unstable world, their parents are typically the first responders to dangerous international situations. The sacrifices these individuals and their families are required to make deserve recognition and justify additional support from those they are helping to protect. For a Special Operations family, "having your kids end up OK" is much more challenging when one or more parents are deployed, preparing for deployment or even upon returning from deployment.
